Cumberland University’s academic programs combine a contemporary liberal arts curriculum with cutting-edge technology and career preparation. Fully accredited, the University offers 21 undergraduate majors and 30 minors in addition to 7 graduate degree programs and several professional development courses.

Cumberland’s three schools are the School of Humanities, Education, and the Arts; the Labry School of Science, Technology, and Business; and the Rudy School of Nursing and Health Professions. The University also offers pre-professional academic areas of focus such as Pre-Dentistry, Pre-Law, and Pre-Medicine.

For the continuing student, Cumberland’s 7 graduate degree programs provide a pathway to continuing professional success and advancement. Offerings range from the Master of Sport & Exercise Science program, which offers three specializations to the Master of Business Administration or Master of Arts in Education programs, which are conducted online through Cumberland’s growing School of Online and Professional Studies.

The goals of CU CONNECT are:

  1. To improve student outside of class engagement in ideas, problems, and questions within the various areas of inquiry represented in the General Education Core curriculum.
  2. Increase student understanding of the holistic nature of their Cumberland education and the value of liberal arts.
  3. Facilitate student exploration of career interests, service to their community, and enriching off-campus learning experiences.


At Cumberland University, the C.U.E. serves at a hint or indication of what is expected from you as a Cumberland University student over the course of your first year, as well as an initial guide for your four years on campus.

The C.U.E. is a required program for all incoming first-year students. It is designed to help you make a smooth transition from high school to college. We offer a one-and-a-half-day program to prepare you for your first semester at Cumberland. 

On the first day of the C.U.E., you’ll explore and learn about campus in small groups, which will be led by one of our Peer Mentors as well as learn about all the organizations you can get involved with at Cumberland. One the second day of the program, you will learn more about the expectations of being a student at Cumberland, and how to avoid some of the pitfalls that can occur.
